Spanish liqueur Licor 43 will host its annual Bartenders and Baristas Challenge in a virtual format this year.
Zamora Company-owned brand Licor 43 is calling on cocktail and coffee professionals around the world to creatively pair Licor 43 and coffee, with the competition open for entries from today (14 May).
The fifth edition of the event will take place online via Licor 43’s website and social media channels.
Julian Fernandez, Zamora Company’s global marketing and innovation director of spirits, said: “We are committed to supporting and engaging with bartenders and baristas, and in current conditions maintaining the virtual format we started last year is the best way to do this.
“In fact, we actually reached a wider audience – our figures show 20.5 million globally. We look forward to once again being blown away by the thought, creativity and effort that entrants put into their creations.”
Returning global judges will include cocktail expert Merijn Gijsbers and coffee consultant and educator Timon Kaufmann. Penelope Bass, senior editor at US-based Imbibe Magazine, will also be joining the panel this year.
Applicants are invited to submit films of themselves creating and discussing their cocktails. Each national round, including the European Bartending School, will choose one winner to go through to the global final, which will see entrants revise their recipes. An additional winner will be voted for by the public on 27 October 2021.

Earlier this year, Zamora Company added coffee-based RTD Carajillo 43 to its range to celebrate the brand’s 75th anniversary.
Last year, American bartender Annarose Krone, from Nic’s on Beverly bar in Los Angeles, won the Licor 43 competition in 2020 with her Deja Brew cocktail, which combined Licor 43 with blended Scotch, chocolate bitters, dark roast espresso and raspberries. Last year’s contest also took place virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
