It definitely isn’t something you want to watch with your parents or grandparents –– unless you’re Phoebe Dynevor, it seems.
Dynevor plays one of Bridgerton‘s main characters, Daphne. There’s a pretty long and involved sex scene between her and her love interest, Duke Simon — something the actress had to confront head-on when she rewatched the show.

The 25-year-old actress, who also starred in Younger, told Drew Barrymore that she watched the series with her grandparents.
“Yes, I did [watch with my grandparents] but only because, and I find it really hard to watch myself, but I had to if they were going to watch it,” she confessed on Barrymore’s talk show, laughing.
“So I had to stand there with the remote ready at any given point to fast forward for them not to see any of the things I didn’t want them to see. We were good, we got through it. It was PG-13 for my grandparents,” she explained.
Meanwhile, co-star Rege-Jean Page, who plays her on-screen lover, had to warn his family ahead of time via text message about their 20-minute sex scene.
“My family are pretty well drilled at this point…I had red flashing light emojis around episode 5,” said in the same interview.
“I had a cousin who missed the messages and she just put on a tactical cup of tea and left the room [during those scenes]. For no reason, you aren’t perturbed — you just make a long of tea. But she came back and we were still going!”
Bridgerton, which premiered on Christmas Day, has become one of the most-streamed shows in Netflix history. Set in 1813, it follows a high-class family and all the ups-and-downs of their high society lives and romances. The setting and costumes are seeing it compared to Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey, while the gossipy voiceover by Julie Andrews gives it a distinct Gossip Girl vibe.
The series is based on Julia Quinn’s series of romance novels of the same name, who was inspired in turn by Jane Austen. The show is executive-produced by Shonda Rhimes, creator of shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
