Warner Bros. has announced Dune: Part Two has been pushed back to a November 17, 2023 release, while an untitled Godzilla vs. Kong film will release on March 15, 2024.
Dune: Part One arrived in theaters last year to widespread critical acclaim. Denis Villeneuve succeeded where many before had tried and failed in adaptating Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction novel, which had been broadly deemed unfilmable. Dune: Part Two was slated for release on October 20, 2023, but this has now been pushed back a month.
Alongside Dune: Part Two‘s release date, Warner Bros. has also announced that a new Godzilla vs. Kong film is on the way in early 2024, expanding Warner Bros.’ and Legendary’s monster universe.
While the reason for the change to Dune: Part Two‘s release date is not yet clear, it will now coincide with the releases of the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes from Lionsgate and Trolls 3 from Universal, possibly suggesting Warner Bros. is looking to compete with these other major releases.
The previous monster universe movie, Godzilla vs. Kong, released in 2021 at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, getting a simultaneous online release. It followed 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Director Adam Wingard is returning to helm the new entry in the franchise, which will again unite Godzilla and King Kong. No further details have been confirmed as of yet.
Dune: Part Two will welcome back much of the first film’s cast, including Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and also welcomes Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken to the cast.
