If it feels like everyone and their cat is currently obsessed with Netflix hit Lupin, you’re not wrong. The new crime drama has proved such a hit on the streaming site that it’s set to smash records and overtake both The Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton in terms of viewing figures.
Both shows achieved over 60 million streams in their first 28 days on Netflix, while Lupin looks to reach 70 million by 5th February, when it will have been available for a month.
Lupin is also Netflix’s biggest French international hit to date.
So what’s all the Lupin fuss about? Here’s what you need to know…
What is Lupin on Netflix about?
The five-part French series is based on the early 20th century novels of Maurice LeBlanc, who created fictional thief and master of disguise Arsène Lupin.
The official synopsis reads: “As a teenager, Assane Diop’s life was turned upside down when his father died after being accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Twenty-five years later, Assane will use ‘Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar’ as his inspiration to avenge his father.”
Who’s in Lupin?
French actor Omar Sy stars as Assane Diop. You may recognise Omar for his film roles including The Intouchables (2011), Jurassic World (2015) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
Other cast members include Vincent Londez, Ludivine Sagnier, Hervé Pierre and Soufiane Guerrab.
What are the reviews of Lupin like?
