Hollywood director Christopher Landon opens up about being diagnosed with kidney cancer

The director of the Happy Death Day movies, Christopher Landon, has opened up about being diagnosed with kidney cancer while urging people to be vigilant with checking their health.

The 46-year-old had to have part of his kidney removed after he was rushed into emergency surgery just over a week ago.

Thankfully for the filmmaker, the cancer was caught early before it spread and he’s urging fans to watch their bodies, get physicals and get testing.

“Whelp… where to start,” Landon wrote in an Instagram post, alongside a selfie of him in a hospital gown.

“About a week ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer,” he revealed, adding he was “rushed into emergency surgery to have part of my kidney removed”.

“I wasn’t going to post about it but I kinda need to because I got lucky and caught it early,” he continued, adding that it was a “fluke” it was discovered and hadn’t spread yet.

The director continued with an important message for everyone.

“Watch your bodies. Get a physical. Get tested. Get imaging when you can,” he implored his followers. “Some of these cancers are silent killers. You don’t know they are there until it’s too late.”

“I could have spent years walking around with this without symptoms,” he warned. “I’m so grateful to my doctors, my husband, my family and friends. I’ll get through this but PLEASE be vigilant too. ❤️”
