One of the most talked-about nights in the fashion and art world is back. Met Gala 2022 is shaping up to be equally as – if not more – glamorous and enchanting than ever before.
We’ve had a rocky few years. Met Gala 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic and related lockdowns, while Met Gala 2021 was shifted into the autumn (or fall) calendar. Now, we’re back with a vengeance, this time with a springtime date.
Here’s everything we know so far about Met Gala 2022.
When and where will the Met Gala 2022 be?
It will be held on the first Monday of May (2nd May, a bank holiday no less), at the legendary Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The event will take place during evening time Eastern Daylight Time, so it will be late evening and heading into the small hours in the UK as things begin to kick off.
Who will host Met Gala 2022?
Dream couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will co-chair the event alongside Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King. Meanwhile, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, designer Tom Ford and head of Instagram Adam Mosseri are set to be honorary co-chairs, so we’ll see if we get to see them in action on the night.
What will the Met Gala 2022 theme be and what does it mean?
This year, the theme of the Met Gala will be In America: An Anthology of Fashion, which will explore the history of American fashion and will – according to Vogue – see guests embody “the grandeur—and perhaps the dichotomy—of Gilded Age New York”. In short, expect to see lots of luxurious textures (we’re talking silks, velvets, lace) and dramatic detailing in the form of excess ruffles and over-the-top fringing, all splashed across a colour palette of rich jewel tones.
Part two of the exhibition of the same name will be unveiled too, part one of which was revealed during Met Gala 2021.
