Pete Davidson Is Reportedly Leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’

Entertainment:

Update (May 20, 6:13 p.m.): Variety now reports that three more long-running SNL cast members—Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney—are expected to leave the series this Saturday as well.

The original story continues below.

After eight seasons on Saturday Night Live, signing on as one of its youngest-ever cast members, Pete Davidson is reportedly leaving Studio 8H. This weekend’s season finale with host Natasha Lyonne is expected to be Davidson’s final episode with the sketch series, a source tells Variety. Vanity Fair has reached out to reps for Davidson and SNL for comment.

Should he choose to exit, Davidson, who joined the show in 2014 at the age of 20, still has a relatively full dance card. In fact, he’s been on hiatus from SNL for much of its current season to shoot Miramax’s horror film The Home. Davidson is also set to headline his own semi-autobiographical Peacock series, Bupkis, which is produced by SNL chief Lorne Michaels and costars Edie Falco as his fictional mother. Also on deck is the romantic comedy Meet Cute, which he will star in alongside Kaley Cuoco. (Davidson even has a side gig refurbishing the Staten Island Ferry he purchased with fellow borough native Colin Jost.)

During his SNL tenure, Davidson has made a name for himself by delving into his buzzed-about public persona. He’s often appeared as himself at the Weekend Update desk, where he’s addressed everything from his mental health to his high-profile split from Ariana Grande. In addition to playing the recurring slacker character Chad and disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo on SNL, Davidson also had his first kiss with now girlfriend Kim Kardashian on the show.

He isn’t the only cast member to float an exit after SNL’s 47th season. Michael Che said during a stand-up show in March that this would be his “last year” as Weekend Update cohost. Davidson previously expressed his desire to permanently leave his SNL gig last May, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he was “ready to hang up the jersey.”
