REPORT: RHONY Facing Possible Cancellation After Being Deemed “Too Controversial” as Execs’ Fears Revealed

Is The Real Housewives of New York City next on the chopping block?

Amid the news of the RHOD being cancelled for the indefinite future, a new report is revealing that RHONY could be put on permanent hiatus as well.

Bravo is reportedly attempting to figure out a plan for the future of the long-running series following the postponements of the season 13 reunion. But, after the show was reportedly deemed “too controversial,” NBC could make the decision to sideline it for good.

“There is still no confirmed date to shoot the reunion show after it’s being postponed twice. First, August 5th is canceled and now the September date has been canceled too. But even more concerning, there is no date to start filming season 14 on the books and talk about putting the show on permanent hiatus,” sources revealed to Radar Online on August 16.

The sources went on to note that Bravo has put shows on permanent hiatus before. One might recall that the network placed The Real Housewives of Miami on a hiatus following its third season in late 2013, rather than cancel it, and they did the same with The People’s Couch.

Now, the insiders continued, the network appears to be doing the same with RHONY.

“The decision about the show’s future is no longer in the hands of Bravo. After all the accusations of racism the decision has gone all the way up to the top bosses at NBC,” the sources continued. “The gear is that the show is just too controversial now. Which is why there is talk about shutting it down until things cool off. The last thing they want to do is having this show poison the entire franchise.”

As RHONY fans may recall, it was reported earlier this year that producers were planning to fire Ramona Singer from their series ahead of production on their potential 14th season.

“Ramona will not be invited back to the next season of the show, which is currently not in production for a couple of reasons. One, she is too expensive. She is the only lady that has been on the show from day one, ([Luann de Lesseps] was demoted to ‘a friend’ before returning as a full-time cast member) and her salary reflects it,” a source shared at the time.

As the remaining episodes of season 13 continue to air on Bravo, the cast is said to be in the dark about season 14.

While Andy Cohen recently spoke out about the future of RHONY, suggesting he had plans to add to the cast, he also acknowledged that the series suffered because New York City was shut down during production.

“We were facing a lot of different obstacles when we went into production,” he admitted.
