‘The View’ Will Reportedly Name Ex-Trump Aide Alyssa Farah Griffin as New Cohost

Entertainment:

Just over a year after Meghan McCain announced her acrimonious exit from The View, the daytime talk show has reportedly found its next conservative voice. Ex-Trump aide turned detractor Alyssa Farah Griffin has been tapped as the new conservative cohost of The View, Variety reported on Tuesday.

Multiple sources told the outlet that Griffin, who served as Trump White House director of strategic communications, is in final talks to join The View for this fall’s 26th season. “We do not have a co-host announcement to make at this time. Stay tuned,” a spokesperson for The View told Vanity Fair. Griffin, who has guest-hosted the show regularly this season, will also appear during today’s episode.

Before her time in the Trump White House, Griffin served as former vice president Mike Pence’s press secretary and press secretary for the United States Department of Defense. She resigned from the Trump administration on December 3, 2020 and denounced Donald Trump on January 6. By the end of 2021, Griffin joined CNN as a political contributor. “At no point in my entire life was my goal to be on TV and be a talking head. I know I for sure said to my husband multiple times, ‘I want to stay off TV because I don’t wanna forever be seen as a Trump spokesperson,’” she told Vanity Fair’s Charlotte Klein in May. “Famous last words.”

If Griffin does join the Hot Topics panel, she’ll appear alongside moderator Whoopi Goldberg, as well as co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines. Ana Navarro, who has served as a part-time co-host, reportedly auditioned for the job “and is said to be disappointed that she wasn’t selected,” multiple sources told Variety. Stephanie Grisham, the Trump press secretary who resigned on January 6, was also a rumored frontrunner for the spot.

“With The View, they are looking for someone who was pro-Trump but is also anti-Trump, who has credibility with Trumpworld but also rejects January 6—that is a constituency of one,” a reporter who has worked with Griffin told Vanity Fair. “Like, that is Alyssa Farah. She’s the only person who fits in that Venn diagram.”

While Griffin has admitted she “drank the Kool-Aid” while working in the Trump White House, she did not vote for him in 2016 and revealed on The View that her father, WorldNetDaily cofounder Joseph Farah, didn’t attend her wedding because she spoke out against the former president. Still, Griffin’s presence at the panel has already caused controversy. The Daily Beast reported earlier this month that Wanda Sykes balked on a View appearance after learning that Griffin was guest-hosting the episode.

When asked about her prospective View appointment, Griffin told Vanity Fair, “I think I could be helpful,” adding, “I’d have a very hard time saying no to any program that reaches the number of viewers that that show does.”
