Coronavirus symptoms: Three unusual signs of COVID-19 you may not have heard of

Fitness & Health:

Coronavirus symptoms are listed by the NHS as a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. But the list of symptoms doesn’t end there.

The COVID-19 has also been linked to other symptoms – some you might not expect.

Unusual symptoms of coronavirus are listed by the Mayo Clinic, including eye problems, confusion and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Eye problems

The COVID-19 virus may cause eye problems such as enlarged, red blood vessels, swollen eyelids, excessive watering and increased discharge, warns the clinic.

It adds: “The infection also might cause light sensitivity and irritation.

“These symptoms are more common in people with severe infections.”

Confusion

Confusion is also a sign to look out for, according to the clinic.

It advises: “COVID-19 also has been reported to cause confusion in older people, especially those with severe infections.”

Gastrointestinal symptoms

Gastrointestinal symptoms affect the gastrointestinal tract – the tract from the mouth to the anus, including all the organs of the digestive system.

DON’T MISS

The clinic states: “COVID-19 might cause mild gastrointestinal symptoms, including a loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

“These symptoms might only last one day.

“Some people with COVID-19 have diarrhoea and nausea prior to developing fever and respiratory symptoms.”

Other coronavirus symptoms to watch out for

While the NHS only lists three main symptoms of coronavirus, the World Health Organisation (WHO) offers a more extensive list.

Serious symptoms are listed as:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Loss of speech or movement

The NHS says if you have any of the main symptoms it lists:

1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.

2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.

Anyone you live with, any anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.
