Lone survivor of deadly SC shooting has ‘long road ahead of him’

The lone survivor of the deadly South Carolina shooting, who was able to call for help before lapsing into unconsciousness, has lost a lot of blood and his daughter said he has a “long road ahead of him.”

HVAC technician Robert Shook, 38, of Cherryville, SC, was one of six people gunned down by former NFL player Phillip Adams, 33, on Wednesday – and the only one to survive.

Adams fatally shot Dr Robert Lesslie, 70, his wife, Barbara, 69, their two young grandchildren Adah, 9, and Noah, 5, along with a fifth victim, James Lewis, 38, who was working at the couple’s home Wednesday.

Dr. Lesslie had reportedly taken Adams’ medication away sometime in the days or weeks leading up to the shooting. Adams’ family has said his mental health had been deteriorating since he left pro football in 2015.

Shook is a father of three children.

Shook was able to call his boss at GSM Services and give him the correct address to give to 911, WBTV reported.

On Thursday, the York County Sheriff’s Office released the 911 call.

“One just called me. He can’t talk. He’s screaming ‘I’ve been shot, I’ve been shot.’ And I ask him where the other one is, he said he’s laying there and he’s unresponsive and he was shot also,” the 911 caller said.

Shook’s daughter Keleigh Morgan, 18, wrote on Facebook this week that surgeons were able to repair holes in her father’s stomach and colon.

“Daddy went into surgery this morning around 9/9:30. We arrived at the hospital around 1:30 and he was still in surgery,” she wrote.

“After surgery they let us know that surgery went well. He lost a lot of blood. He was shot several times so there was obviously things to repair today. He is still in ICU, on the ventilator,” she wrote.

Despite the severity of her father’s injuries, Morgan reported “the doctor told us today he has more hope than he had this morning so things may be looking up a little bit.”

Shook has two younger children in addition to Keleigh.

Phillip Adams dealt with concussions and injuries during his NFL career.
