Live COVID-19 updates: Brazil reports 1,657 single-day deaths

BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) — The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s COVID-19 death toll on Sunday reached 373,335 after registering another 1,657 fatalities, the country’s ministry of health reported.

According to the ministry, another 42,980 cases were registered, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 13,943,071.

SEOUL — South Korea reported 532 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 114,646.

The daily caseload was down from 671 in the previous day, falling below 600 in six days owing to fewer virus tests over the weekend.

BEIJING — The Chinese mainland on Sunday reported 11 new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Monday.

Of them, four were reported in Hainan, two each in Guangdong and Yunnan, and one each in Tianjin, Shanghai and Shaanxi.

QUITO — Ecuador reported 2,389 cases and 43 more deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 360,546 and the death toll to 12,720, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Sunday.

Another 4,983 deaths are considered to be COVID-19 related, but not verified, according to the ministry.
