A terrifying home invasion has been described as a nightmare come true after a grown man pleaded guilty to entering a little girl’s bedroom while her family was sleeping.
WA man Jamie Phillip Mongoo pleaded guilty to home burglary and common assault committed in the Geraldton suburb of Strathalbyn two minutes after midnight on June 2, court records show.
The West Australian newspaper reported the eight-year-old girl told Mr Mongoo “Stop it, you’re scaring me, go away.”
Her mum told the newspaper she later found her daughter distressed, but believed the girl had been having a nightmare.
However, the following morning the mum checked the home’s security camera footage to discover there really had been a stranger inside the house.
“I felt nausea and anger all at once when I first saw that my CCTV had captured someone right outside my kid’s bedroom,” the mother said.
“I had expected to put her mind at ease by showing her there was nothing, only to discover that her nightmare was our reality.”
Mr Mongoo also pleaded guilty to a number of unrelated charges, including trespassing in homes in other Geraldton suburbs, as well as 13 counts of fraud.
Mr Mongoo is in custody and will face the same court again, via videolink, on November 17.
