Removalist dies after truck ploughs into Perth home

News Today || Headlines Today

A man has died after a truck carrying two large shipping containers ploughed into a Scarborough home.

It is understood the man, who was working with removalists nearby, was hit by the out-of-control vehicle before it struck the home on Tuesday.

Shocked residents ran out to help him as he lay injured in the street about 200m from the property the truck crashed into.

One Scarborough resident said he saw the man running alongside the out-of-control semi-trailer before falling underneath it.

“I saw it go past . . . he seemed to be running to somehow get onto it and he got pulled underneath it,” he said.

“I don’t know whether he was trying to get in to stop it, but he hit the ground hard.”

“The noise it made, I won’t ever forget it,” one woman told The West Australian.

Police and St John Ambulance were called to the chaotic scene on the intersection of Manning Street and Deanmore Road just after 1pm on Tuesday. Nobody was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The injured man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he died shortly afterwards. Police officers from the major crash division spent Tuesday night inspecting the truck, trying to piece together what led up to his death.
