Legendary WA broadcaster and writer Bob Maumill has been fighting personal battles since signing off his lengthy radio career in 2016 but he never expected cancer to be one of them.
A fixture on Perth’s 6PR talkback radio station, Maumill was proud to “provoke, amuse and occasionally inform” his audience across a career spanning four decades.
From his biting satire to political commentary, the 82-year old was an award-winning radio host and was named Best Current Affairs Broadcaster at the Radio Industry Award in 1992.
After years of visiting dermatologists, he was caught by surprise in December 2018 when a doctor handed down his cancer diagnosis.
Speaking to The West Live Host Jenna Clarke, Maumill will recount his decades-long career and the “hurdles” he has faced after signing off.
Also on the show today, WA infectious diseases specialist, paediatrician and Director of the Telethon Kids Institute Jonathan Carapetis will discuss WA’s COVID-19 response to Victoria’s, where an outbreak continues to concern the community.
After 9am, The West Australian’s Inside Cover editor Ben O’Shea will finish the program off on a high and share quirky stories from across the State.
