What’s the latest situation for the London area?

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported 33 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and no deaths. There were also 33 cases reported on Wednesday.

The latest tally comes after 446 people were tested for the virus at the Carling Heights assessment centre.


The health unit posted 43 recoveries on Thursday, with 186 known active cases in the region. The rolling seven-day average of daily cases is 20.

As of Sept. 11, there have been 738,157 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Middlesex-London. Of those aged 12 and older, 84.7 per cent have received one dose of a vaccine and 78.4 per cent are fully vaccinated. The lowest vaccination rate is among people 18 to 24, of which 65.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

London Health Sciences Centre says it is treating seven patients with COVID-19-related illnesses. There are five or fewer patients in adult critical care and five or fewer patients with COVID-19 in the Children’s Hospital.

Five or fewer staff members at the hospital network have tested positive for the virus and are in quarantine.

COVID-19 cases at London schools

There were five additional cases of COVID-19 reported by the Thames Valley District School Board, at five different schools:

  • Blenheim District Public School.
  • Central Elgin Collegiate Institute.
  • Northdale Public School (Woodstock).
  • Parkside Collegiate Institute.
  • Stoney Creek Public School.

Those impacted by the cases have been contacted directly by the school board. There have been no outbreaks declared at any schools or child care centres.

There have now been 23 cases of COVID-19 reported at London-area schools and two cases at child care centres in September.

Here’s where the pop-up vaccination clinics are

The MLHU is hosting two pop-up clinics on Thursday:

  • CitiPlaza – MLHU office – 355 Wellington St., available until 4 p.m.
  • White Oaks Mall, 1105 Wellington Rd, London, available until 7 p.m.

The pop-up clinic at White Oaks Mall will continue daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Friday, and then from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

COVID-19 updates across the region

Southwestern Public Health reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and no new deaths. There are currently 72 ongoing cases in Elgin-Oxford, including 21 in Woodstock, 12 in St. Thomas and eight in Aylmer.

Huron Perth Public Heath reported 10 new COVID-19 cases and no deaths on Thursday. There are 35 known active cases in the region.
