Boy, 14, taken to hospital after being stabbed in Croydon street fight

A 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in a street fight in Croydon.

The altercation involving a group of males with knives broke out in Wellesley Road on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the scene just after 11.45pm but the group had dispersed before they got there.

Just after 12.50am on Thursday, officers were informed that a 14-year-old boy had gone to a hospital in south London with a stab wound.

His condition is not life-changing.

Initial police enquiries suggest he may have sustained his injury in the altercation in Wellesley Road.

Just before 1.30am, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon near to where the above incident took place.

He remains in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and a small crime scene remains in place.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “At 23:46hrs on Wednesday, 22 June police were called to Wellesley Road, Croydon following reports of an altercation involving a group of males armed with knives.

“Officers attended but the group had dispersed prior to their arrival.

“At 00:52hrs officers were informed that a 14-year-old male had arrived at a south London hospital with a stab wound.

“His condition has since been assessed as non-life changing.
