Man, 52, arrested on suspicion of arson after Croydon house fire

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a house fire in Croydon.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in St Augustine’s Avenue shortly after 12pm yesterday (March 24).

No injuries have been reported following the fire.

The man has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

Enquiries are on going.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting CAD2837/24MAR.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: “Officers on duty noticed a residential building on fire in St Augustine’s Avenue, Croydon, at about 12.05pm on Thursday, 24 March.

“Officers, the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service attended.

“No injuries have been reported.

“A 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

“He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody. Enquiries continue.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting CAD2837/24MAR.

“Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.”
