Met Office forecasts sunny day in drastic weather U-turn after night of flooding chaos

The Met Office is forecasting a day of sun today (Thursday) after heavy rain and a night of flooding chaos.

Heavy rain fell across the UK over night on Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday morning after a yellow weather warning was put in place by the Met Office.

The rain flooded roads, causing cars to get stuck and forcing traffic to be diverted.


Some drivers had to struggle through roads submerged in water.

However, in an ever UK-typical drastic weather U-turn – today will actually be a pretty nice day.

The Met Office is forecasting a day of sunshine across London.

The full forecast says: “A cloudy start with some patchy rain.

“However, this will soon clear to the southeast to leave a largely dry with plenty of sunshine.

“Feeling chilly though, with a brisk northeasterly wind, but this will ease later in the day. Maximum temperature 12 °C.”

12pm – Sunny

1pm – Sunny

2pm – Sunny

3pm – Sunny

4pm – Sunny spells

5pm – Sunny spells

6pm – Clear night

It might not be sunbathing levels, but its certainly an improvement on torrential rain.

The weekend is also forecast to be dry.

Full weekend forecast:

Friday: Becoming a bit breezy for a time with patchy cloud and a few light showers. Winds easing through the late afternoon, and showers dying out during the evening. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Mild and largely dry for much of the weekend with some bright spells, but cloud and patchy rain spreading into western parts Sunday afternoon. Sunny spells and scattered showers Monday.
