Top NBA on MLK Day picks

One of the top 2022 MLK Day NBA picks the model recommends: The under (230.5) hits in the matchup between the Jazz and Lakers in Los Angeles. Utah is averaging 115.3 points per game and has finished under that total in five of its last seven contests. The Jazz erupted for 125 on Sunday as they halted their four-game losing streak at Denver, their highest total since posting a 128-116 victory against Minnesota on Dec. 23.

Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 31 points against the Nuggets, marking the third time in five games he eclipsed the 30-point mark. But the 25-year-old shooting guard recorded only 17 points in each of those other two contests. The Jazz managed to limit Denver to 44.2 percent shooting and are sixth in the West as they are allowing an average of 107.5 points per contest while holding opponents to 44.9 percent shooting.

Utah, which is 19-4 against Western Conference rivals this season, will be facing Los Angeles for the first time in 2021-22. The Lakers eclipsed their 111.7-point average in four consecutive contests before being trounced 133-96 at Denver on Saturday. Los Angeles had only three players reach double figures in that defeat and did not receive much production from its bench as it was outscored 57-32 by the Nuggets’ reserves.

The model is calling for a tight game that ends with the score still in the 220s range, making the under the clear value play as it hits in 60 percent of simulations.
