Who’s Playing

Cleveland @ New York

Current Records: Cleveland 42-35; New York 34-43

What to Know

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ road trip will continue as they head to Madison Square Garden at 1 p.m. ET Saturday to face off against the New York Knicks. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’

A victory for the Cavaliers just wasn’t in the stars on Thursday as the team never even grasped a temporary lead. They suffered a grim 131-107 defeat to the Atlanta Hawks. Cleveland was down 100-75 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Small forward Cedi Osman put forth a good effort for the losing side as he had 21 points in addition to six boards.

Meanwhile, New York ended up a good deal behind the Charlotte Hornets when they played on Wednesday, losing 125-114. New York’s defeat came about despite a quality game from shooting guard Evan Fournier, who shot 6-for-8 from downtown and finished with 30 points. Fournier hadn’t helped his team much against the Chicago Bulls on Monday, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Barring any buzzer beaters, Cleveland is expected to win a tight contest. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past seven games, so buyers beware.

The losses put Cleveland at 42-35 and New York at 34-43. Two stats to keep an eye on: The Cavaliers rank first in the league when it comes to fouls per game, with only 17.2 on average. But the Knicks enter the contest with 20.4 fouls drawn per game on average, good for fourth best in the league. The ref’s whistle might dictate the flow of action in this one.
