Cardinals owner wants Chandler Jones back on Arizona next season: ‘The devil’s in the details’

News Post || News Now

Chandler Jones is scheduled to hit free agency next month, yet the Arizona Cardinals aren’t ready to part ways with the franchise’s all-time sack leader. Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell wants Jones back in Arizona next season, hoping the details can be hammered out in the coming weeks.

“We love Chandler and would love to have him back,” Bidwill said, via Tyler Drake of AZSports. “The devil’s in the details. Leave that up to Steve and Chandler’s representatives to work on, but we love Chandler and what he’s done in the past and hopefully in the future as well.”

Jones, who turns 32 on Sunday, had a bounce-back season in Arizona after playing just five games the season prior. He finished with 10.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, 41 tackles and 12 tackles for loss in 15 games– earning a Pro Bowl selection. He finished with 36 pressures and 26 tackles on designed run plays.

Jones has 71.5 sacks with the Cardinals. His 107.5 sacks since he entered the NFL in 2012 are the most in the league. Jones has 0.77 career sacks per game, the seventh-most since sacks were first recorded in 1982 (minimum 20 games). A member of the 2010’s Pro Football Hall of Fame All-Decade Team. Jones is a two-time All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowl selection. His 33 forced fumbles are the most in the NFL since 2012.

The Cardinals are currently $813,256 over the cap, but should have plenty of opportunities to get a Jones deal done. Jones will be one of the most coveted pass-rushers on the open market if he hits free agency.
