A Malaysian model died after she went under the knife at an unlicensed salon in an attempt to look her best for her upcoming wedding, according to a report.
Coco Siew Zhi Shing, 23, searched online to find a beauty salon in Kuala Lumpur that could perform liposuction on her arms ahead of tying the knot to her boyfriend of four years, the South China Morning Post reported.
She went in for the $603 procedure Saturday, but after she was given an anesthetic injection, her heart rate plummeted and she experienced convulsions, the outlet reported.
The bride-to-be was rushed to a hospital, where she died that evening, the report said.
Her cousin, who did not want to be identified, said the model had never been to the salon before and she could sometimes be naïve.
“She was very free-spirited and determined, happy, and sometimes, a little too innocent,” her cousin said.
Her family notified law enforcement about her death at the salon, which is reportedly unlicensed to perform cosmetic procedures.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the salon owners — a mother and her daughter — have been taken into custody for investigation into culpable homicide not amounting to murder, the outlet reported.
